Favorite Mom For 20 years, Covenant House New Orleans has been a safe haven for at-risk and homeless youth ages 16-21 and their children. Located at 611 N. Rampart Street, the New Orleans site serves the neglected and abused kids of Greater New Orleans as well as youth from around the country who come to New Orleans and are in need of help. CHNO is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. More than just a shelter, CHNO provides the support and training needed to help our youth become independent, productive members of society. Since Hurricane Katrina, CHNO has had the opportunity to open its doors to other agencies whose buildings were damaged or destroyed by the storm. Our campus has also become home to agencies offering valuable services to our residents as well as to people from the community. Tulane Medical Center has a free Walk-In adult clinic on our campus. The hours are 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 9:00 a.m. to Noon on Friday. The clinic provides full primary care services with availability to specialists on site and through referral. Tulane also runs a Drop-In clinic on site for children and adolescents. The clinic provides medical services with a Pediatrician on staff 9:00 a.m. to Noon, Monday through Friday. A nurse practitioner staffs the clinic Noon to 4:00 p.m., Monday-Friday. According to Stacy Horn Koch Executive Director of Covenant House, since Covenant House was spared damage from Hurricane Katrina we have made the commitment to provide space and utilities for the clinic at our Rampart Street facility indefinitely. Koch said, "In these extraordinary times there is a critical need for collaborative efforts among our city's non-profit human service providers. Covenant House is grateful for the opportunity to provide our multi-purpose facility to this important collaborative which is providing access to medical care and other human services to the neighborhood and the community at large." Other non-profit human services agencies that are being housed at Covenant
House include: The Travelers Aid Society, assisting homeless or displaced
individuals in crisis; The Metropolitan Human Services District, which
is the State Office of Substance Abuse and Mental Health, providing counseling
and treatment. And more collaborations are in the works. |
