Tanya, 21, is a former Rights of Passage resident – one of our first “graduates.” She came to us in 2011 seeking refuge from an abusive relationship with her live-in boyfriend. With a history of steady employment in retail, it was clear to our counselors that Tanya was a hard worker; but she struggled with self-confidence and had clearly been taught to dream small. She had never even received her High School diploma.
Our staff helped Tanya realize her unique potential. The beginning was a bit rocky (she wasn’t used to being challenged, and she was uncomfortable being praised for her intellect and leadership skills); but after a few months in the program, she began to see her own potential and dream big! One year later, she moved into her own 2-bedroom apartment and is working to become a nurse practitioner.
